City street trees and buildings lit with holiday lights at night in New York

Holiday lights

Christmas light and holiday decoration installation in NYC

A building that glows in December gets noticed: by guests walking past a hotel, by shoppers choosing which store to step into, by neighbors on a brownstone block. Purple Window Cleaning installs Christmas lights and holiday decorations on buildings, storefronts and homes across the five boroughs, including the upper floors that a ladder can't reach. We plan the layout with you, put everything up before the season, and come back to take it down when the holidays are over.

What we install

Holiday decor in New York goes on brick, stone, glass and steel, often above a busy sidewalk. We install:

  • String lights along rooflines, cornices, parapets, window frames and railings.
  • Garlands and wreaths around entrances, doorways, windows, stoops and storefronts.
  • Lights in trees and planters in front of buildings, in courtyards and on plazas.
  • Storefront and lobby decorations that frame the entrance and the display windows.
  • Decorations on upper floors and tall facades, where the work needs rope access.

Tell us what you have in mind and what you already own. The estimate spells out exactly what we install, where it goes and when we take it down.

For buildings, storefronts and homes

Commercial properties. Hotels, restaurants, retail stores, offices and lobbies use holiday lighting to welcome guests and to stand out on the street. We schedule the installation around your opening hours, so the work happens before you open or after you close, and the entrance stays clear for customers.

Residential buildings. Co-ops, condos and rental buildings decorate the entrance, the lobby and the facade for residents. We coordinate the visit with the super or the property manager and follow the building's rules for contractors.

Townhouses and private homes. A brownstone stoop with a lit garland, a wreath on the door and lights along the railing is a New York classic. We install it neatly and safely, so you don't have to spend a cold weekend on a ladder.

Upper floors and tall facades

Many buildings want lights higher than a ladder can reach: along a cornice, around the upper windows or down the length of a facade. Our high-rise crews use rope access, which reaches the upper floors without scaffolding, lifts or sidewalk sheds in front of your entrance. It's the same method we use for high-rise window cleaning, and it keeps disruption to the building and the street low.

Book early: the season is short

Most holiday lighting goes up between early November and early December, and almost every building wants it done in the same few weeks. The earlier you request your estimate, the more choice you have of installation dates. If you'd like the lights on before Thanksgiving, contact us in October or early November.

Insurance and building rules

Buildings and management companies usually ask for insurance documents before any contractor starts work on the facade. Purple Window Cleaning is fully licensed and insured, and a Certificate of Insurance is issued to your building management before work begins. If the property also needs additional insured status, workers' compensation or higher limits, select them in the estimate form and the team confirms them before scheduling.

Our crews are trained and supervised. Lights and decorations are secured so they stay put through winter wind and don't block entrances, windows or walkways.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you take the lights and decorations down after the holidays?

Yes. The take-down is part of the plan we agree at the estimate, with a date that suits you, usually in January.

Can you install lights on a high-rise building?

Yes. Upper floors and tall facades are reached with rope access, without scaffolding or sidewalk sheds. See high-rise window cleaning for how our high-rise crews work.

Can the installation happen at night or before we open?

Yes. We schedule the work around your hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.

How much does holiday light installation cost?

Every job is quoted after a free estimate. The price depends on the size of the building, how much you'd like decorated, how high the work goes and whether the decorations are yours.

Which areas do you serve?

All five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. See our service area.

Can you clean the windows at the same visit?

Yes. Clean glass makes the lights look better, and many clients book a window cleaning right before the decorations go up.
