Spring is the natural time: the deck is cleaned before the outdoor season starts. A second clean in the fall takes off leaves, pollen and the summer's grime before winter. For a busy terrace or a restaurant patio, a regular schedule can be part of a recurring exterior maintenance program, with the dates and the budget agreed in advance.
Leaves and pollen left on a deck over the winter hold moisture against the surface, which is one more reason to clean before the cold months rather than after.
Getting the space ready
A deck clean goes faster when the surface is clear. Before the visit, move furniture, planters and grills if you can, and put away anything fragile. Tell us about drains, outdoor outlets and lighting, and anything we should keep water away from.
